Professional Fiction and Non-Fiction Editor

Is it your desire to be a published author? If so, an integral step in becoming a published author is using a professional fiction and non-fiction editor. At Langtons International, we work with fantastic professional fiction and non-fiction editors, and we offer these services to any writer that needs an editor and wishes to have their books commercially published.

As part of our goal to help writers become published authors, we work with several highly regarded independent editors who each specialize in different genres. Some of these editors are award winning authors, or who have worked at major publishing houses. We take special care in choosing the right editor for the author and his or her book, who would specialize in the genre and the editor will help connect with their writing voice.

Langtons International offers three different types of edits from our professional fiction and non-fiction editors.

Each edit is progressively more intensive. An author may choose the type of edit based on the level of work needed to bring his or her book up to publishable standards, and the cost.

The first edit is an overview. This is a more overarching edit, in which the editor writes a 9-10 pages comprehensive assessment, or report, on your manuscript. The editor will point out what needs to be done regarding characterization, dialogue, timeline, story arc, and other areas that need work. They will provide occasional examples with page numbers as they go along.

The second type of edit is a roadmap. This is where the editor goes into the manuscript and, line by line, page by page, using track changes, makes comments and suggestions in the margins providing a step by step guideline for you, the author, to follow. This is a more in-depth edit as it will show you the exact areas that require your attention.

The third edit is a developmental edit. The editor will first complete a roadmap, as described above. Then, as the author is reworking their book based on the edit, they can have direct contact with the editor to ask questions for clarification and suggestions. This correspondence may be through email, phone, or video call. The editor will provide the author with guidance to make adjustments and rewrite aspects of the book.

Editing and revising is a process that all writers, even best-selling published authors, must go through. Working with a professional fiction and non-fiction editor is essential to provide an author with the necessary tools to rework their manuscript to bring it up to publishable standards.

Langtons International Agency is known for its excellent standards when it comes to our professional fiction and non-fiction editors and we are always happy to connect a writer to the appropriate editor.
